Weller Special Reserve: Proof, Wheat, and Buying Guide

Updated March 2026.

W.L. Weller Special Reserve is a 90-proof Kentucky straight bourbon with a wheated mash. The Buffalo Trace brand page calls it “the Original Wheated Bourbon” and prints 90 proof (45% ABV). A 1.5-ounce pour is 1.13 NIAAA drinks. It is distilled at Buffalo Trace Distillery for the Sazerac Company. We will not invent a 2026 MSRP.

Wheat instead of rye is a recipe, not a TTB class. Related: Weller vs Buffalo Trace, who makes Weller, wheated bourbon.

A 750 mL 45% bottle is about 19 drinks. Four 90-proof pours are about 4.5 drinks. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. Allocation and street price move. Pour math: whiskey drinks.
