Who Makes Kirkland Tequila?

Updated March 2026.

Costco does not distill Kirkland tequila. The four-digit NOM on the back label is the producer. Current warehouse bottles are widely reported at NOM 1173 — Corporativo Destilería Santa Lucía in Tesistán, Jalisco (VinePair 2026; CRT certified-brands list dated 23 June 2026 still also shows a leftover Kirkland row under La Madrileña NOM 1142). Older lots carried NOM 1472 (Fábrica de Tequilas Finos) or 1142. Read the NOM in the cart. SKUs change.

This is not Patrón, Casamigos, or Don Julio in a Kirkland dress. CRT identity still applies: 100% agave or mixto is on the label; US bottles are usually 40% ABV. A 1.5-ounce 40% pour is one NIAAA standard drink. We will not invent a 2026 warehouse price. Method is the same as Kirkland vodka: turn the bottle around.

What the NOM actually means

NOM on the bottle CRT producer Status
1173 Corporativo Destilería Santa Lucía, Tesistán, Jalisco Current warehouse reporting (VinePair; CRT 23 Jun 2026 brand row)
1142 La Madrileña, S.A. de C.V. Legacy CRT row / older bottles — Tasting Table said this line was being phased out
1472 Fábrica de Tequilas Finos Older añejo-era reporting — not a 2026 guarantee

Tequila must be made in the CRT zone from Blue Weber agave (27 CFR 5.148 / NOM-006). Mixto is legal if labeled. A 1.75 L 40% handle is about 39.5 US 1.5-ounce shots. Four 40% pours are four drinks. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. See tequila types and tequila drink count.

How to verify in 30 seconds

  1. Find the four-digit NOM on the back or neck.
  2. Look up that NOM on the CRT registry — not a Reddit mash-bill.
  3. Confirm 100% agave vs mixto and the ABV.
  4. If the NOM changed since last year, the contractor changed.
