Best Reposado Tequila for Margaritas

Updated June 2026.

The IBA Margarita names tequila, Cointreau, and lime — not a reposado brand. Reposado is a CRT class: oak at least two months and less than one year. Most US bottles are 40% ABV — one NIAAA drink per 1.5 ounces of tequila in the glass. Blanco is the more common spec tequila. This is not a 10-bottle ranking.

Class first, then the pour

Piece Rule
IBA Margarita 50 tequila / 20 Cointreau / 15 lime
Reposado Oak 2 months to <1 year
Typical US ABV 40% — one drink / 1.5 oz
Cointreau 40% on the US label
Brand Not named

A 1.5-ounce 40% tequila pour is one drink even after the lime and orange liqueur go in — those add more ethanol if you count them. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. Pour math: margarita drinks.
