Real bourbon still sells under $30 on ordinary US grocery and liquor shelves when the bottle is in stock. This is not a 2026 price list and not a tasting we ran this year. If the sticker is $31, it is not “under $30” that day. Allocation unicorns (Buffalo Trace, Weller, Blanton’s) do not belong on a $30 page even when suggested retail looks cheap.
Bourbon identity does not change with the price: ≥51% corn, distilled ≤160 proof, entered into new charred oak ≤125 proof, bottled ≥40% ABV (27 CFR 5.143). “Best” here means widely distributed bottles that actually clear $30, plus the 100-proof values that punch above their tag. Wider net: bourbon under $50 and cheap bourbon.

A $24 bonded 100-proof bottle is more whiskey than a $29 80-proof bottle if you are mixing. Proof math: 100-proof whiskey. Jim Beam White is Kentucky straight bourbon at 80 proofwhiskey or bourbon. A 1.5-ounce 80-proof pour is one NIAAA standard drink; 100 proof is 1.25 in the same jigger.
Skip the “10 best of 2022” ranking energy. State tax and house brands (Costco Kirkland is a different “who makes” question) change the set. Store bourbon is legal bourbon if it meets 5.143. Calories: bourbon calories.
