Eggnog wants bourbon that still tastes like bourbon after dairy, sugar, and nutmeg. That usually means 90–100 proof, not the lightest 80-proof mixer, and not a honey-cinnamon flavored whiskey unless you want candy. This is not a 2022 tasting ranking and not a 2026 price list. Bottled “bourbon egg nog” (Evan Williams Egg Nog and the like) is a different productEvan Williams Egg Nog storage.
Dairy and sugar mute proof. A 1.5-ounce 80-proof pour is still one NIAAA standard drink; the cup is larger than the pour. Four eggnog cups can be four-plus drinks if the host is generous. USDA leftover commercial eggnog is a 3–5 day fridge clock once opened — not a whiskey rule.
What actually works in the bowl

Classic ratio talk (1 cup bourbon per quart of nog, etc.) is recipe folklore, not TTB. Count the ounces you pour. Age statements are optional. Cheap bonded bourbon is a better nog tool than an allocated bottle you cannot replacebourbon under $30 and cheap bourbon.
