Updated March 2026.
There is no official “best brandy.” US brandy is a distilled-wine class under Cognac is brandy from the Cognac region that meets BNIC/AOC rules — VS, VSOP, and XO are age grades, not proofs. Typical US Hennessy, Courvoisier, and Martell VS bottles used in prior rewrites sit at 40% ABV — one NIAAA drink per 1.5 ounces. Read the neck. We will not invent a 2026 ranking or MSRP.
