The best vodka for a Sex on the Beach is a clean, 40% ABV unflavored vodka you can actually taste under peach schnapps, orange juice, and cranberry. The International Bartenders Association build is 40 mL vodka, 20 mL peach schnapps, 40 mL orange juice, and 40 mL cranberry, built over ice in a highball. That is a juice-forward cocktail. Ultra-premium bottles disappear in it. Harsh well vodka does not.
You do not need a ranked list of ten bottles with invented almond-and-nectarine notes. You need a 80-proof vodka that is neutral, a peach liqueur that is actually peach, and juice that is not from a gun if you can help it. Absolut Mandarin is a legitimate variation, not a requirement. UV Cake is a different drink.
At 40% vodka and ~20% peach schnapps, the IBA pour is about 1.1 to 1.2 US standard drinks before the ice melts. A bar that uses 2 ounces of vodka just doubled the vodka line.

Garnish: half orange slice. Method: build on ice, no shaker required. If your “Sex on the Beach” uses pineapple, Midori, or Chambord, you have a cousin, not the IBA drink. Gin instead of vodka is a riff; it will taste like gin.

TTB’s vodka standard of identity is a neutral spirit bottled at not less than 40% ABV unless it is a flavored vodka, which may be lower. What the 2023 list got messy
UV, New Amsterdam, Absolut, Grey Goose, Tito’s, Belvedere, Sobieski, Prairie Organic, Wodka, and Absolut Mandarin are all real vodkas. Ranking them 10 through 1 with poetic finish notes was filler. Tito’s is corn-based. Absolut is winter wheat. Sobieski is rye. Those facts matter more than “hints of nectarine.” Organic and gluten-free claims (Prairie) are label claims; distilled vodka is generally consumed by people avoiding gluten, but celiac advice belongs to a clinician, not a cocktail roundup.
Average 2023 Drizly prices are stale. In 2026 a 750 mL of well vodka is often $10–$20, Absolut around the low $20s, Grey Goose higher. Tax and the control state matter more than a ranking. Do not buy a bottle for this drink that you would not use in a vodka soda.
Pitchers and party math
Scale the IBA ratio, do not “free pour until pink.” A pitcher that uses 12 ounces of 40% vodka already holds eight standard drinks from the vodka alone, plus schnapps. - Use 80-proof unflavored vodka unless you are deliberately making the mandarin riff.
- Measure schnapps. It is sweet and easy to overshoot.
