Updated July 2026. Facts, pour sizes, hours, and sources checked against current state ABC structure — not a 50-state store census.
Some Walgreens stores sell beer and wine. Distilled spirits (“liquor”) only where that store holds a package license and state/local law allows drugstore spirits. Many stores sell no alcohol. Control jurisdictions (state-run spirits retail) generally keep vodka/whiskey/tequila out of drugstores. We will not print a 50-state Walgreens map or a fake “10 a.m.–10 p.m. everywhere” clock. Hours are ABC + that store’s license, not a corporate slogan.

License, not a chain-wide yes
| What you want | Keep |
|---|---|
| Beer / wine | Common where drugstores can hold beer-and-wine permits. Still store-by-store |
| Spirits (vodka, whiskey, tequila, gin, rum) | Needs a package/spirits privilege. Rare vs beer-and-wine. Impossible in typical control-state spirits monopolies |
| Hours | State/local off-sale clock. Not “10–10 company-wide” |
| Self-checkout | Age check. California restricts customer-operated alcohol checkout (Bus. & Prof. Code § 23394.7 pattern), confirm current |
| Age | 21+ with valid ID |
| 2022 “yes, Walgreens sells hard liquor” line | Too broad. Dropped |
A 1.5-ounce 40% spirit pour is one NIAAA drink; a 12-ounce ~5% beer is one drink; a 5-ounce ~12% wine is one drink. The aisle does not change the math. Check the Walgreens app/store page for that store’s alcohol set. Do not drive.
