How Many Mimosas to Get Drunk?

Updated May 2026.

A mimosa is sparkling wine plus juice — count the wine, not the flute. A typical hospitality pour is 4 ounces (118 mL), not NIAAA’s 5-ounce wine glass. Half-and-half at 12% is about 0.40 US standard drinks; 4 ounces of 12% sparkling is 0.80. Bartenders vary. Four 0.80-drink flutes in about two hours hit the NIAAA binge line for many women. Warning, not a brunch target.

Prosecco, cava, and US sparkling often print 11–12.5% ABV — read that label, do not invent a house number. Juice adds calories, not ethanol. Do not drive. Legal limit is 0.08% in most states (0.05% in Utah).

Mimosa math (assume 12% sparkling unless the label differs)

Standard drinks = (fl oz × ABV) ÷ 0.6. 4 oz ≈ 118 mL; 5 oz ≈ 148 mL. A 4-ounce hospitality flute is not one NIAAA wine glass.

Orange juice does not cancel ethanol. USDA orange juice is about 110 kcal per 8 oz; the wine is the other calorie pile — see wine calories. For the sparkling itself, see how much alcohol is in champagne and champagne drink count. Prosecco prints its own ABVprosecco for mimosa is the label page, not a house proof. Bubbles can speed early absorption for some people. Peak BAC is often 30–90 minutes after you stopkick-in timing.

Grand Marnier or a vodka “mimosa” is a different drink: count the liqueur or spirit on top of the wine. Bottomless brunch is a pitcher-and-refill problem, not a flute problem. This is math, not a wedding plan.
