Gentleman Jack is Tennessee whiskey at 80 proof / 40% ABV, same strength as Old No. 7, from Lynchburg. The brand difference is an extra charcoal-mellowing step — twice through the maple charcoal, in the house story — not a higher proof and not a bonded whiskey. Hub: Jack Daniel’s.

What the bottle actually is
Same legal class as Old No. 7. Same 40% on typical US bottles. The extra charcoal pass is process, not a TTB subclass. Drink count matches black label. Side-by-side magazine page: Gentleman Jack vs Jack Daniel’s.
The 2024 catalog said “single-distilled, twice charcoal-mellowed.” We will not invent a distillation-count beyond that house line.
Lab notes
Nose: vanilla, citrus, floral — lighter than the banana-caramel black-label brief. Palate: sweet vanilla, fruit, light spice, then balanced oak with caramel. Finish stays softer than Bonded. Rewritten from the house taste/aroma lines. If you cannot taste the second charcoal pass in a blind flight, that is allowed; it is still a different SKU on the shelf.
