Sailor Jerry vs Captain Morgan: What’s the Difference?

Updated June 2026.

These are two flavored/spiced rums, not two 40% rum-class twins. US Sailor Jerry Original is commonly 92 proof / 46% ABV (1.15 drinks per 1.5 ounces). Captain Morgan Original Spiced is 35% ABV / 70 proof in the US — 0.88 drinks. UK Sailor Jerry often prints 40%. Read the neck. This is not a 2022 winner.

Spiced/flavored class can sit under the 40% rum floor. Related: Captain Morgan, Captain vs Bacardi, rum and Coke.

A 750 mL 46% bottle is about 19.5 drinks; 35% is about 14.8. Four US Sailor Jerry pours are about 4.6 drinks. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. The IBA Cuba Libre is rum, cola, and lime — no brand. Pour math: rum drinks.
