What Does Gin Taste Like?

Updated June 2026.

Gin taste is not a TTB class. Gin is spirits made with juniper berries — original distillation, redistillation, or mixing with neutrals — and it must take its main characteristic flavor from juniper and be bottled at 40% or more. Drinkers often cite pine or citrus; that is bar talk. Distilled gin may also be labeled Dry, London, or Old Tom. A 1.5-ounce pour at 40% is one NIAAA drink.
