Updated August 2026.
Diageo owns Casamigos. The 2017 close is on diageo.com: Diageo bought the brand from George Clooney, Rande Gerber, and Mike Meldman. They did not keep a secret backyard still. The distillery is on the CRT NOM line. Current US bottles we can document print NOM 1609 — Diageo México Operaciones, Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco (as of August 2026). Older lots have been reported as NOM 1416 (Productos Finos de Agave). CRT still lists a leftover Casamigos brand row under 1416. Read the one in your hand.
Typical US Blanco / Reposado / Añejo is 40% ABV / 80 proof — confirm the neck. It is 100% agave tequila when the label says so. Mezcal is a sister brand, not the tequila NOM. Related: tequila guide, Patrón, margarita tequila.
Owner vs NOM
| Question | Current line | Not |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns the brand? | Diageo (2017 acquisition PR) | Not still an independent celebrity LLC |
| Who distills (current documented bottles) | NOM 1609, Diageo México Operaciones, Atotonilco El Alto (as of August 2026) | Do not invent a third NOM |
| Older lots / leftover CRT row | NOM 1416 Productos Finos de Agave (Jesús María / Guadalajara listing) | A leftover CRT brand row is not a 2026 US back-label |
| US strength | Usually 40% | Not a CRT 55% outlier unless labeled |
A 1.5-ounce 40% pour is one NIAAA standard drink. A 750 mL is about 17 drinks. Four pours are four drinks. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. Same-parent Don Julio is a different brand and historically a different NOM story (1449) — do not merge the liquids. Pour math: tequila drinks.
