Updated June 2026.
Amaretto is a style. Disaronno Originale is one brand in that style. Disaronno is an Italian liqueur from Illva Saronno. Trade and labels have long printed 28% ABV / 56 proof; the 2026 homepage did not show the number — read the neck. A 1.5-ounce 28% pour is 0.70 NIAAA standard drinks. The almond taste comes from apricot kernels, not almonds, per the brand’s long-standing recipe note.
Other amarettos (Lazzaroni and many grocery labels) can use almonds or different proofs. “Amaretto” on a US label is a type word, not a guarantee it is Disaronno. Related: cocktail recipes, Cointreau vs Grand Marnier.
Class vs brand
| Amaretto (class) | Disaronno Originale | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Bitter-almond-style liqueur | One Illva Saronno brand |
| Typical ABV | Label-dependent | 28% (trade/label) |
| Nuts | Sometimes almonds | Apricot kernels (brand story); no almonds |
| 1.5 oz drinks | Scale by ABV | 0.70 if 28% |
A 750 mL at 28% is about 11.8 drinks. Four 1.5-ounce pours are 2.8 drinks. An Amaretto Sour’s drink count is the liqueur plus any whiskey or egg-white recipe you actually used. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. No 2026 MSRP.
