Best 10-Year Bourbon

Updated June 2026.

A 10-year bourbon is an age statement, not a tasting league. TTB requires that number to be the youngest whiskey in the bottle. Eagle Rare 10 Year is the widely distributed labeled 10 at 90 proof / 45% ABV — 1.13 NIAAA drinks per 1.5 ounces. A no-age-statement bottle that “tastes like 10” is not a 10-year bourbon. Not a 2022 list of 15.

Russell’s Reserve 10 Year is another labeled 10 (read that proof). Elijah Craig Small Batch is NAS now, not a 10. Related: Eagle Rare, aged bourbon, Buffalo Trace.

What “10 year” on the label means

Bottle / rule Note
Age statement Youngest whiskey at least 10 years
Eagle Rare 10 Labeled 10; 90 proof (brand)
Russell’s Reserve 10 Labeled 10 — confirm current proof
NAS “tastes old” Not a 10-year claim
1.5 oz at 90 proof 1.13 drinks

A 750 mL 45% bottle is about 19 drinks. Four Eagle Rare pours are 4.5 drinks. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. Allocation is real; suggested retail is not street. Pour math: whiskey drinks.
