Best Sweet Vermouth for a Negroni

Updated April 2026.

The IBA Negroni already names the vermouth class: 30 ml sweet red vermouth, with 30 ml gin and 30 ml Campari. It does not pick a brand. Sweet vermouth ABV is label-specific — often 15–18% (some rosso bottles print closer to 14.5–15%). The ethanol that dominates is the gin and Campari. This is not a 2023 ranking of ten bottles.

Dry vermouth makes a different drink. Related: sweet vs dry vermouth, Campari vs Aperol, gin for a G&T.

What the card actually uses

Bottle IBA role Typical drinks in 30 ml
Gin (often 40–47% US) 30 ml ~0.68 at 40%; more at 47%
Campari 30 ml bitter ~0.41 at 24% / ~0.42 at 25% — read the neck
Sweet red vermouth 30 ml ~0.25–0.30 if 15–18%
IBA total (40% gin, 24% Campari, 16% vermouth) ~1.3

Four IBA Negronis at that math are a little over five drinks. Fridge the vermouth after opening — it is fortified wine, not whiskey. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. No invented MSRP. Pour math: drink math.
