Don Julio 1942 is an añejo tequila — not extra añejo — bottled at 40% ABV / 80 proof at NOM 1449 in Jalisco. The house age line is at least 24 months. Extra añejo legally starts at three years; 24 months is still añejo. The year on the label is González’s start year, not a vintage. Hub: Don Julio.

What the bottle actually is

A 1.5-ounce pour at 40% is still one standard drink. The tall bottle does not change the math.
Lab notes
Nose: caramel and chocolate more than citrus — the oak has moved in front of the peel. Palate: warm oak, vanilla, roasted agave. Finish: more oak, more vanilla, longer than the standard añejo brief. Rewritten from three short house bullets. Awards on the 2024 catalog (SFWSC gold 2022–23) are historical medals, not a 2026 ranking.
