What Proof Is Jack Daniel’s?

Updated July 2026.

Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 is 80 proof — 40% alcohol by volume — on the standard US black-label bottle. US proof is twice ABV. A 1.5-ounce pour is one NIAAA standard drink (14 g alcohol) and about 97 calories (USDA 80-proof spirits). Gentleman Jack is typically the same 80 proof. Bonded is 100 proof (1.25 drinks in that jigger). Single Barrel Select is commonly 94 proof. Barrel-proof single barrel is whatever that barrel dumped, within TTB’s two-degree rule.

Export and duty-free SKUs can print a different strength. Flavored Jack (Honey, Fire, Apple) is a different class and usually a lower proof — read that neck, do not assume 80. Full line table: Jack Daniel’s buying guide and alcohol in Jack Daniel’s.

Proof vs a 1.5 oz pour

SKU Typical US proof ABV Std drinks in 1.5 oz
Old No. 7 80 40% 1.00
Gentleman Jack 80 40% 1.00
Bonded 100 50% 1.25
Single Barrel Select 94 47% 1.18
Single Barrel Barrel Proof Batch Batch (ABV ÷ 40) × 1.00
Tennessee Honey / Fire / Apple Label Label Usually <1.00

Old No. 7 was historically sold at higher proofs; the current US flagship is 80. That is not a flavor grade. Four black-label pours are four drinks; four Bonded pours are five. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. Do not drive. See whiskey proof.
