Kirkland Scotch is bottled by Alexander Murray & Co., a Calabasas independent bottler — the name is on the label. Murray sources, blends, and bottles Scotch distilled and aged in Scotland. It is not a named Speyside or Islay distillery unless that bottle says so. Costco has used Murray since the first Kirkland single malt in 2007 (Forbes; VinePair). Distillery-of-origin rumors (Macallan, Dewar’s, Tullibardine) are tasting guesses.
Scotch sold as Scotch must meet UK Scotch Whisky Regulations and TTB class rules (distilled and matured in Scotland, ≥3 years in oak). Most house blends print 40% ABV. Murray lists Costco on its private-label page. That is a bottler relationship, not a mash-bill. A 1.75 L 40% handle is about 39.5 standard drinks. Four 40% pours are four drinks. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. Proof math: whiskey proof.
