Best Bourbon Under $20

Updated March 2026.

Under $20 is the sticker that day, not a TTB class. Bourbon still needs ≥51% corn, new charred oak, and ≥80 proof. Jim Beam White is 80 proof / 40% ABV. Evan Williams Black is typically 86 proof, read the neck. A 1.5-ounce 40% pour is one NIAAA drink. A $19 handle is not the same as a $19 750 mL. No 2022 ranking or invented MSRP.

If the tag is $20.01, it is not under $20 that day. Related: bottom-shelf, everyday bourbon, Jim Beam.

What the $20 line actually means

Lane Typical proof Usually under $20?
National 80-proof 750 mL 40% (Jim Beam White) Often, sale-dependent
86-proof grocery ~43% (Evan Williams Black typical) Often on 750 mL or 1.75 L
Allocated “cheap MSRP” Label Street usually no
Flavored whiskey Different class Ignore the bourbon filter

A 750 mL 40% bottle is about 17 drinks. Four White pours are four drinks. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. Hours are state ABC, not a brand. Pour math: whiskey drinks.
